The Money Doesn't Really Leave Nvidia's Building
Nvidia is putting up $5 billion in cash for equity in SSI[1], but the more interesting question is where that money actually goes: back to Nvidia, as GPU revenue. SSI's own account of the deal is that Vera Rubin access will let it 10x compute in 12 months[2]- and Vera Rubin chips are sold by Nvidia. FourWeekMBA's read is blunt: 'The supplier finances the customer; the customer buys the supplier's product. The loop is closed before any external capital needs to move.'[3]The mechanics of this specific deal are simple enough that skeptics don't need much interpretation.
