The bystander problem no settings menu can fix
Bee Frontier and Bee Eclipse are built to listen continuously to spoken conversations and turn them into summaries and to-dos[1]. Amazon's mitigations - an on/off button, an LED listening indicator, and auto-shutoff after 5-15 minutes of silence - are all controlled by the person wearing the device, not by whoever is talking to them[2]. Mozilla Foundation's Lauren Hendry Parsons argues that even flawless data handling by Amazon doesn't fix this: "Even if these companies have perfect data handling processes and perfect privacy records, the risk is being transferred to the consumer instead of being held by the tech company."[3]Online reaction splits along that same fault line - official Amazon and Bee accounts frame the devices as tools that help you stay present in conversations, while independent commentary is far more skeptical, some of it framing an always-listening wearable as a way to learn what to sell you rather than a memory aid.
